The oral health education of students with special educational needs is being supported through this project.
The project established through a protocol signed between the Rectorate of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of National Education, Special Education, and Guidance Services Branch, has commenced implementation at Çanakkale Kepez Special Education Vocational School.
The project named 'Feasibility and Transferability of Oral Hygiene Habits and Assessment of Oral Health in a Group of Individuals with Special Needs Living in Çanakkale' has initiated oral and dental health education and practices for students at Çanakkale Kepez Special Education Vocational School.
The project led by Dr. Assistant Professor Rüya Sessiz from the Faculty of Dentistry, with contributions from Prof. Dr. İlgi Tosun, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkant Sezer, and Dr. Assistant Professor Gizem Ayan, aims to enhance oral health among students with special needs by providing oral hygiene education. It also aims to determine the oral health status and treatment needs of students with special needs, establish close relationships with them and their families, and firsthand identify the processes and expectations regarding accessing dental treatments.
Dean Prof. Dr. İlgi Tosun, who visited Recep Girgin, the Director of Kepez Special Education Vocational School, expressed hopes for the success of the project, which is implemented between December 2023 and September 2024.
