Dental Faculty Students Raise Awareness for Environmental Cleanliness
In collaboration between ÇOMÜ Faculty of Dentistry and ÇOMÜ Social Responsibility Project Coordination, a coastal cleaning event was held with the participation of 5th-year dental students in the Kepez Port Area.
As part of the 100th Year Celebrations, a coastal cleaning event was organized in collaboration between the Faculty of Dentistry and ÇOMÜ Social Responsibility Project Coordination at Kepez Port, covering an area of 400 meters. Within the scope of the event, the Social Responsibility Project Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Hicran Özlem Ilgın, Coordinator Assistant, Assoc. Prof. Nazan Çalbayram, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. İlgi Tosun, Dr. Lecturer Rüya Sessiz, and 5th-year dental students who were taking the Community Oral and Dental Health course participated.
Prof. Dr. İlgi Tosun, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, used the following words to the students participating in the event: "The purpose of this activity is not just to pick up trash; our goal is to develop awareness not to litter the environment." Dr. Sessiz added, "I am proud to be your teacher, my students. Today, you did a great job with the precision and attention to detail that being a dentist requires. Being a dentist means being exemplary individuals who respect nature, beyond just providing healthcare to society. With our 5th-year students, we took care of patients in the morning, and in the afternoon, we served nature through our activity."
The students from the Faculty of Dentistry, aiming to become well-rounded professionals who contribute to society, conducted an awareness campaign along the coastal area of the Kepez district, which hosts their faculty. After the cleanliness activity, the collected waste was handed over to Kepez Municipality. The event concluded with a commemorative photo.
